Stratasys announced the availability of 13 new, approved filaments to work with the Fortus 450mc industrial 3D printer, as well as the new SAF PA12 polyamide powder, supplied by the company’s new partner – ALM, dedicated to the H350 3D printer working in SAF technology. Additionally, OpenAM software with an Open Material license enabling work with materials from other vendors has been made available for Fortus 450mc.

Stratasys works with a number of established 3D printing material suppliers such as Covestro, Kimya and Victrex plc to develop new and Stratasys approved materials for FDM 3D printers, starting with the Fortus 450mc. Filaments have passed reliability tests and increase the application possibilities for device users. The new materials are now available for order, and shipment is expected in early 2023.

New filaments compatible with Stratasys Fortus 450 mc:

  • VICTREX AM 200: strong, semi-crystalline PAEK filament, specially developed for the production of end parts in demanding industries such as energy (oil and gas extraction) and aviation.
  • Covestro Addigy PA6 / 66-GF20 FR LS – fire-resistant composite material, doped with glass fiber that meets the requirements of EN45545 for railway applications. The material’s strength and stiffness are similar to those of 12CF Nylon.
  • Kimya PC-FR: fire-resistant polycarbonate material that meets the requirements of EN45545 for railway applications and is specially designed for the production of final parts, including small-lot production and spare parts.
  • FDM HIPS: low-cost, high-impact polystyrene-based material for low-maintenance applications.
  • ULTEM 9085 in new colors – Red, Dream Gray, White, Jana White, Gunship Gray, Aircraft Gray: Ultem is a fire retardant high performance material that now comes in several colors, opening up more applications for the production of end parts where it is important aesthetics.
  • PC in new colors – Red, Black: polycarbonate filament with high heat resistance and high durability for functional prototypes and tooling applications.
  • PCS-ABS Red: A blend of polycarbonate and ABS provides both heat resistance and flexural strength for a variety of prototype and end-use applications.

Stratasys also opens its Fortus 450mc 3D printer to work with third-party materials, giving customers access to open materials with an annual OpenAM material license. The software, when used in conjunction with GrabCAD Print or Insight, provides control of the parameters and fine-tuning of the 3D printer for users wishing to use open-market filaments or newly developed proprietary formulas.

New polyamide for the H350

Stratasys also announced a partnership with Advanced Laser Materials (ALM), which has become the first material supplier for the H350 3D printer. SAF PA12 is the most popular material in industrial 3D printing, providing geometric accuracy, chemical resistance and stiffness of machine components, communications and prototyping applications.

Stratasys will be able to accept orders for SAF PA12 before the end of the year.
