Although the COVID-19 pandemic is a difficult time for many companies and enterprises, there are fortunately industries that are less vulnerable to the effects of the lock-out caused by the pandemic. An example would be filament producers who, in the face of growing interest in additive technologies, achieve record sales. To confirm this thesis, Spectrum Filaments at the end of April installed the third production line, further increasing the already high efficiency.

When it comes to filament production lines, there are two strategies: installation of many low-cost and inefficient systems from China, or expensive, individual systems, equipped with proprietary solutions that in terms of efficiency match three or four Chinese lines. Spectrum Filaments has been following the second path from the beginning.

The new line was installed on April 20 this year. It has a capacity of 120 meters per minute, which in the case of e.g. PLA class plastic translates into approx. half a ton of produced filament per day. Spectrum representatives emphasize that it is twice as fast as the average speed of production lines in which European companies are equipped, thus the lines of the Polish manufacturer are one of the fastest in Europe. Thanks to the third line, the company is able to produce approx. 24 tons of material per month.

Such a high production speed is possible thanks to the appropriate extruder, long baths in which the filament is cooled and a whole bunch of proprietary design solutions, behind which the company’s founders, who have many years of experience in production, stand. Spectrum Filaments production lines have, among others special heads ensuring proper material distribution and high homogeneity of materials, as well as a number of tools for the production of various types of materials (e.g. independent screws with different mixing zones).

The company is entirely financed with funds from ongoing operations – there is no external investor, nor does it benefit from EU funding.

Wiktor Przybysz, responsible for production logistics says, that quality of manufactured products and approach to the customer, is emphasized by customers from all over the world – including leading chemical concerns that choose Spectrum Filaments as the producer of their solutions.
