In early November, SLM Solutions presented a new metal 3D printer – NXG XII 600E, capable of producing metal parts up to 1.5 meters high and with a total working area of 600 x 600 x 1500 mm. A moment later, the Chinese manufacturer of similar systems – Eplus3D, presented an even larger EP-M1250 device, equipped with a working chamber at the level of 1258 x 1258 x 1350 mm. SLM Solutions decided to do something about it and … presented the concept of a 3D metal printer with an even larger working area!

The German manufacturer’s solution is set to “shake up the industry” by enabling the production of high-quality metal parts up to 3.0 x 1.2 x 1.2 meters (XYZ). The concept of the large-scale metal 3D printing machine includes a basic unit and a flexible working chamber that allows the production of components in individual dimensions. Combined with the advantages of SLM technology, the breakthrough product offers its users the possibility of production perfectly tailored to individual requirements – without limits.

Additive manufacturing reaches its limits when it comes to work chamber sizes. Large parts often cannot be printed because they exceed the mounting space available on the market. The flexible system solves this problem and will be an impetus for the development of the entire additive manufacturing industry. It allows, for example, the production of cylindrical parts with a diameter of 1.8 meters and a height of 1.6 meters, or alternatively long parts up to 3.0 x 1.2 x 1.2 meters. This allows for a performance of up to 330 cm³/h.
