Formlabs introduces two new resins dedicated to the healthcare sector

Formlabs has announced the launch of two new materials aimed at the healthcare sector, dedicated to the Form 3B series 3D printers. Dental LT Comfort Resin and Biomed Durable Resin are compatible with Form 3B, Form 3B+ and Form 3BL models and can be used in medical facilities for the production of devices and instrumentation as well as in dental and orthodontic laboratories.

The first of the materials – Dental LT Comfort Resin, is a durable and flexible light-curing resin that can be used to produce long-lasting bite splints, night guards and teeth whitening trays. Dental laboratories can use it to print flexible splints that are long-lasting, biocompatible, comfortable for the patient, and require minimal polishing to achieve high optical transparency in the long run.

According to Formlabs, ordering a single occlusal splint can cost anywhere from $100 to $200 with a turnaround time of 1 to 7 days. 3D printing of the same applications using Dental LT Comfort Resin in-house allows you to reduce costs to $ 5-7 with a turnaround time of 2-3 hours.

The second material – BioMed Durable Resin, is a USP VI class product, manufactured in an FDA registered facility and certified according to ISO 13485. It can be used with long-term contact with the skin, short-term contact with tissues, bones and dental tissue. The material responds to the medical industry’s need for a biocompatible product that can withstand impact, rough handling and pressure, and is therefore suitable for patient-worn applications, procedural instruments and other similar instrumentation.

BioMed Durable Resin features high impact and abrasion resistance, and excellent surface transparency and finish, making it ideal for biocompatible and durable instruments that may be struck with a surgical hammer or may come into direct contact with a cutting saw.
