Formlabs introduces three new flexible resins for medical applications

Formlabs is introducing three materials designed for 3D printing in SLA technology for the medical industry: BioMed Elastic 50A, BioMed Flex 80A and IBT Flex. Two new BioMed resins are dedicated to the production of surgical models, medical devices and more. In turn, the transparent IBT Flex Resin is very resistant and can be used in the production of dental applications, including guides for direct composite restorations and trays for indirect bonding.

BioMed Elastic 50A Resin and BioMed Flex 80A Resin are state-of-the-art, biocompatible materials certified to ISO 10993 and USP Class VI, which enable an expanded, personalized approach to medical care. The resins are suitable for long-term contact with the skin and short-term contact with mucous membranes. They allow 3D printing of flexible elements of medical devices, medical products, as well as medical tissue models that the surgeon can use in the operating room.

Each material provides different flexibility depending on different applications:

  • BioMed Elastic 50A is a soft and flexible material for applications requiring biocompatibility and transparency; the material’s flexibility will be adapted to mass-personalized medical devices requiring long-term contact with the skin and adaptation to the patient, soft tissue models, or models of the gastrointestinal tract for visualization of fluids, or complex neurovascular models that the surgeon can use in the operating room.
  • BioMed Flex 80A is a strong, flexible, medical-grade material for applications requiring durability, biocompatibility and transparency; is used to produce flexible, patient-specific medical devices or anatomical models with hard tissues that surgeons can use in the operating room.
  • IBT Flex resin provides greater flexibility for dental and orthodontic applications; is an FDA-registered, Class I biocompatible material that provides consistent, predictable results when printing highly accurate indirect trays and direct composite restoration templates; with increased flexibility, tear resistance and transparency, this material will enable dental laboratories and clinics to save time and costs while maintaining the accuracy necessary for the smooth and precise application of orthodontic brackets and restorative composite materials.

BioMed Elastic 50A, BioMed Flex 80A and IBT Flex resins are compatible with Form 3B+ and Form 3BL 3D printers.
