SLM Solutions acquires Adira AddCreative, expanding its portfolio of large format 3D metal printers

SLM Solutions, a manufacturer of metal 3D printers owned by Nikon, has announced the acquisition of Portuguese company Adira AddCreative. It is a daughter company of Adira, which specializes in the production of sheet metal working machines. SLM Solutions has announced that the Adira Addcreative team, based in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, will join its global team to continue developing large format metal 3D printing systems.

Since 2020, SLM Solutions has focused on the production of machines with very large working areas, led by the flagship model of the 12-laser NXG XII 600 system, which quite unexpectedly became a real sales hit. Since then, the company has launched an extended version with a build volume of 600 x 600 x 1,500 mm, and at last year’s Formnext, it unveiled another that is said to be able to produce parts up to 3 x 1.2 x 1.2 subway. SLM Solutions large format 3D printers have been installed in companies such as Divergent Technologies, Sintavia and Collins Aerospace.

Through the acquisition of Adira AddCreative, SLM Solutions intends to further intensify its activities in the development of large format 3D printing. Addira AddCreative is developing its own 1,000 x 1,000 mm machine with a similar 12-laser capacity, which is used in the aerospace, energy and defense industries.

“Incorporating this advanced technology into our portfolio helps complement our offering, bridging the gap between our current systems and future large-scale 3D printing systems,” said Sam O’Leary, CEO of SLM Solutions. The acquisition of Adira AddCreative comes almost a year after Japan’s Nikon announced the acquisition of SLM Solutions in a €622 million deal. It was formally finalized in January this year after Nikon acquired over 92% of SLM Solutions.
