Norsk Titanium successfully qualifies additive manufacturing of aerospace parts for Airbus

Norwegian company Norsk Titanium has announced the completion of qualification of its flagship Merke IV 3D printer and its proprietary, patented fast plasma deposition (DED) technology for the production of aerospace components for Airbus. The announcement is the culmination of rigorous testing and validation that positions Norsk Titanium as a leading player in the additive aerospace manufacturing sector.

Using advanced DED technology, Norsk Titanium specializes in the production of structural components from aircraft-grade titanium. These components, manufactured on Merke IV AM 3D printers, are already integrated into commercial aircraft currently in operation. Premium Aerotec, an Airbus subsidiary based in Varel, Germany, has placed an order for the initial design part. Norsk Titanium is actively implementing this order, having already delivered the first preforms produced using the additive method, machined, qualified and integrated into the A350 aircraft production team.
