Markforged, the developer of an integrated metal and carbon 3D printing platform, has announced the formal completion of the acquisition of Digital Metal, a manufacturer of metal 3D printers operating in the Binder Jetting technology. Digital Metal was founded in 2003 and is based in southern Sweden. Before the takeover, the company was part of the Höganäs group (founded in 1797) – a leading producer of metal powders. The information was first announced in July this year. – this was Markforged’s second acquisition, following the April acquisition of Teton Simulation Software, the technology of which has been integrated with the Eiger 3D printing software.

Markforged acquired Digital Metal from Höganäs AB for approximately $ 32 million in cash, approximately $ 4.1 million of Markforged common stock and approximately $ 1.5 million in cash to settle certain intra-group balances. Digital Metal and its team will continue to operate under the Digital Metal brand as a subsidiary of Markforged.

Digital Metal solutions ensure the production of high-class metal parts. The company’s ability to spray the binder onto powdered metal alloys enables manufacturers to fabricate large quantities of functional parts from a variety of materials. Until now, Digital Metal 3D printers have produced hundreds of thousands of parts for companies from the consumer products, automotive and university sectors.
