HONOR presents the new HONOR Magic V2 smartphone, with 3D printed titanium hinges

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Honor – a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, presented the latest model of a foldable phone – Honor Magic V2, which has a record low height when closed. This is possible thanks to the use of a titanium alloy, which translates into a perfect balance between light weight and durability of the device. The Magic V2 weighs just 231g and is just 9.9mm when folded. In the production of the new Honor smartphones, metal 3D printers supplied by HBD (Hanbang Technology) are used.

Honor is a Chinese smartphone brand that was founded by Huawei Technologies in 2013 as a sub-brand aimed at young users. Honor products include smartphones, tablets, laptops and wearables and are known for their competitive price and stylish design. In November 2020, due to difficulties related to trade restrictions imposed by the US government, Huawei sold the Honor brand to ensure its further development. Since then, Honor has operated as an independent company.

The main feature of the new Magic V2 is a super-light and durable hinge made of titanium, which can only be made in this form using 3D printing technology. The use of titanium allowed to increase the strength of the hinges by 150% compared to hinges made of aluminum. Titanium is also relatively light – 3D printing technology has made it possible to optimize the design of the hinges, which has contributed to an even greater reduction in weight. The material is also extremely corrosion resistant and has a high temperature resistance, which is important in electronic devices that can generate a lot of heat.

Of course, the titanium hinge is not the end of innovation, which is incomparably more. Honor Magic V2 is equipped with two ultra-slim silicon-carbon batteries, which are only 2.72mm thick. Thanks to the innovative low-voltage charging technology, the battery has a higher capacity at the same voltage compared to graphite-based battery systems. The smartphone is equipped with a foldable OLED LTPO screen that supports 1.07 billion colors and a triple camera set, including: 50MP main camera, 50MP ultra wide-angle camera and 20MP telephoto camera. On the front there is a dual camera with two 16MP cameras.

In addition, the phone will be available in several colors: Silk Black, Silk Purple, Gold and in a special Black version with a vegan leather back cover. The starting price for the model in China is RMB 8,999 (approx. PLN 5,000). It is available for pre-sale in China, but there is no official information yet when it will hit European markets?
