Recently, most of the information published on the 3D Printing Center concerning SLM Solutions appears in the context of their financial problems. At the same time, the company is constantly entering into new cooperation, while expanding its scope of competence. Recently, it has entered into cooperation with Honeywell – they are working together on a project to optimize 3D metal printing processes to increase the efficiency of additive production.

Now, SLM Solutions has announced a strategic partnership with Canwell Medical, a leading manufacturer of medical devices and implants in China. Their 3D printing technology from metallic powders will be used to develop the production of surgical implants. SLM Solutions will simultaneously provide support in both technical support and research and development in order to conduct an efficient process of certification of medical devices.

Canwell Medical has been on the Asian market for 25 years and specializes in the design and production of medical equipment as well as the creation of implants and rehabilitation equipment. Now the Chinese company will take advantage of the knowledge and technological possibilities offered by SML Solutions to improve the quality of manufactured equipment.

SLM Solutions systems are successfully used for 3D printing of elements for the needs of the medical industry. At the same time, the company devotes a lot of attention to researching new solutions and optimization of production, publishing, among others update of 3D printing process parameters from titanium alloy endoprosthesis shells. A number of solutions used in the device, such as an optimized powder feeding system or gas flow in the working chamber, allows n achieving high quality and reliability prints, which is key in the medical industry. So far, many SLM Solutions customers have obtained FDA certification or CE mark for 3D printed products on their systems.
