Prusa Product Passport – detailed information on the carbon footprint of 3D printers and how to recycle used parts

Czech manufacturer of 3D printers – Prusa Research, presented a document called Prusa Product Passport dedicated to its most popular product – Original Prusa i3 MK3S+. The sources of origin of all subassemblies and components necessary to create one 3D printer are presented in detail, and its carbon footprint has been calculated.

From the very beginning, Prusa Research has emphasized its support for the idea of open-source and open-hardware movements, making the vast majority of its proprietary solutions available to the community of 3D printing hobbyists and amateurs. By publishing detailed information on the specifics of the production of its devices, the company expects its products to be used in a more sustainable way. In addition to information on the part’s origin or carbon footprint, the document also includes instructions for maintaining and repairing the 3D printer and material markings of individual parts for easier recycling.

Prusa expects its products to last longer, offering the ability to easily upgrade, modify and expand, allowing for more sustainable use. The Prusa Product Passport includes:
