CTC and SLM Solutions to create the world’s largest laser metal 3D printer

US company Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) has announced a $ 5.2 million contract with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to build the world’s largest 3D printer for 3D printing from laser sintered metal – NXG XIIE. The project aims to overcome the limitations of current 3D printers of this type in building large parts for critical defense applications.

The CTC subcontractor is the American branch of the German SLM Solutions. The companies intend to base the new design on the existing SLM Solutions machine – the NXG XII 600 model, which was first introduced in November 2020. The machine offers 12-laser machining of large parts at 20 times faster speed than other market solutions. The new 3D printer is to have an extended working chamber in the Z axis, which is to reach a target height of 1500 mm.

Drukarka 3D NXG XII 600 została zaprojektowana z myślą o dużych, seryjnych produkcjach. Pozwala na przetworzenie do 10.000 kg materiału rocznie. Posiada zintegrowane partycjonowanie pola skanowania zapewniające równomierne rozłożenie obciążenia między wszystkimi 12 laserami. Obszar roboczy to 600 x 600 x 600 mm.
