BCN3D raises EUR 2.8 million for the development of its devices

BCN3D, a Spanish manufacturer of 3D printers, obtained funding of € 2.8 million. The company will allocate funds to the development of its devices and expanding the range of available consumables. So far, the Spanish company has acquired a total of € 5.5 million with funding from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

The company’s specialists want to use material resources and knowledge to further develop their solutions in the field of 3D printing technology. Their partner became Danobatgroup, which has experience in standard production methods, such as grinding, cutting and turning. Cooperation may contribute to the implementation of new projects, related, inter alia, to with solutions in the field of composite materials.

Support is also an opportunity to expand the offer of materials. In this area, the manufacturer places particular emphasis on industrial-grade materials. He believes that this will allow him to gain an advantage in new, competitive markets.

So far, BCN3D’s offer includes three 3D printers – Epsilon, Sigma R19 and SIgmax R19. BCN3D implements a proprietary system of two independent print heads called IDEX (Independent Dual Extrusion) in its solutions, which will be further developed as part of the received funds.

The company’s portfolio also includes nine types of filaments compatible with their 3D printers. As part of the partnership with BASF Forward AM, which produces materials for 3D printing, they will jointly work on a new line of industrial filaments for the production of components for specialized technical applications.

Alberto Bermejo, investment director at Clave Capital (one of the investors) says that the product BCN3D 3D printers fits perfectly into their strategies to develop and increase the availability of additive technologies.
