Arburg – a German company operating on the injection molding market, has been operating in the 3D printing industry for many years. In addition to the production of 3D printers of the Freeformer series, which use material in the form of granules at work, it also owns German RepRap, which has been transformed into the innovatiQ brand. It specializes in the production of 3D printers based on traditional FDM / FFF technology. In November, at Formnext 2022, the company will present two new versions of its flagship Freefomer 3D printers, as well as present innovatiQ solutions to date.

The Freeformer line is based on the selective extrusion of plastic microgranules used in injection technologies, creating parts at a very low cost of the material itself. Now Arburg intends to launch its 750-3X printer, which has 2.5 times the volume of 3D printing than the previous model. The principle of material processing remains the same as in earlier models, but the entire system – the preparation and discharge units – has been optimized so that the new 3D printer can be designed more compactly.

From a strictly external point of view, the Freeformer 750-3X is no different from the 300-3X, as it has the same external dimensions. However, the work area is about 2.5 times larger and about 750 square centimeters – which is also what the name of the new system refers to. The greatly enlarged construction chamber measuring 330 millimeters x 230 millimeters x 230 millimeters, in which the temperature is kept constant without special air flow or circulation, is the result of several technical innovations. These include optimized melt pressure generators for metering and injection that use AMKmotion servo motors from Arburg.

Thanks to the advanced functions of the control system software, it was possible to significantly increase the speed of 3D printing. It will now be possible to create process-optimized lattice support structures with construction times up to 55 percent faster than ‘conventional’ structures.

In addition, the company will present the Freeformer 200-3X, dedicated to work with soft materials such as TPE, in a wide range of Shore hardness. The drying of the material, which is necessary for the processing of soft materials, is integrated into the machine and programmable via the control system. Thanks to its gentle plasticization, the Freeformer 200-3X can also be used for the production of components with a high degree of mechanical strength.
