Zortrax has announced the launch of the fire-resistant BASF Ultrafuse PPSU filament, dedicated to the Zortrax Endureal industrial 3D printer. This material is certified for use in the railway industry. PPSU performs well in extreme thermal conditions and exhibits resistance to fire and chemicals, making it also excellent for hydraulic and aerospace applications. It is another advanced plastic that has joined the broad portfolio of materials available for the Endureal 3D printer and was introduced as part of a long-term partnership with BASF Forward AM.
Zortrax Endureal offers work with a wide range of engineering and industrial materials, from ABS and Z-ULTRAT, through BASF Ultrafuse PC/ABS FR, as well as filaments with metallic powder or some of the most durable 3D printing materials in the world – PEEK, PEI and PAEK. Endureal also supports several advanced flame retardant filaments such as Z-PEI 9085, BASF Ultrafuse PC/ABS FR and Nanovia PC-ABS V0. Now this list has been extended to include BASF’s unique Ultrafuse PPSU filament.
BASF Ultrafuse PPSU complies with the EN 45545-2 railway classification and is approved for use in the manufacture of rail vehicles operating both above and below ground. The material is also UL 94 compliant and rated V0. This means that all end components 3D printed with Ultrafuse PPSU minimize the risk of fire spreading to vehicles in the event of a failure.
The newly introduced material is also characterized by excellent dimensional accuracy and maintains its properties and geometry under the influence of high temperatures and steam. BASF Ultrafuse PPSU shows high resistance to oils, fluorine, coolants, greases and fuels. Therefore, in addition to the railway, it will be perfect for many applications in the aerospace, hydraulic and mechanical industries. Elements can be successfully printed on Zortrax Endureal from PPSU, provided that the filament is properly dried before use and the 3D printer build plate is covered with Magigoo HT glue.
