Stratasys has already sold (just?) 35,000 industrial FDM 3D printers

Stratasys is one of the first companies producing 3D printers in the world and the inventor of FDM technology – the most popular additive method on which all the most popular amateur 3D printing devices are based. As reported by the 3D Printing Media Network portal, the American-Israeli manufacturer has recently implemented another device of this type in Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin and it was also a 35,000 installation of an industrial FDM type 3D printer in the nearly 33-year history of Stratasys. A lot of? A little? Certainly profitable – Stratasys is, next to 3D Systems, one of the two companies in the 3D printing industry, generating the highest annual revenues…

The number of 35,000 devices sold does not refer to the MakerBot brand, which Stratasys acquired 9 years ago. According to data collected by 3dpbm Research on the market for 3D printing from polymers in the form of a strand, 56,781 3D printers costing $ 10,000 and above were installed worldwide by 2021. Thus, the result announced by Stratasys indicates that 2/3 of devices of this type that anyone has ever purchased were manufactured by this manufacturer.

Stratasys founder Scott Crump developed the FDM technology in 1989. In 2012, the company merged with Israeli Objet to expand its portfolio with PolyJet photopolymer technology. A year later, it took over the then market leader of desktop 3D printers – MakerBot, and in the last few years a number of other manufacturers, enriching its offer with virtually every most popular additive method, except for 3D printing from powdered metals.
