Coronavirus has entered the U.S. Although most of the country still feels relatively safe, New York and California are experiencing hard times, unfortunately so well known to residents of major European cities. Stratasys – one of the largest 3D printing companies in the world, has decided to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and announced several key initiatives currently underway, in collaboration with government officials, customers, partners, and the medical community.
Due to shortage of face shields across the U.S., Stratasys is rapidly scaling its efforts to print both re-usable and disposable face shields on dozens of its FDM 3D printers located in Texas, California, and Minnesota. The shields are designed in similar way to popular PRUSA design – they consist of 3D printed, plastic frames and clear plastic face cover. The goal company set is 5000 pieces manufactured just in following week. The shields are going to be passed to medical community and law enforcement.
Stratasys is also are involved in the CoVent-19 Challenge, created by residents of Massachusetts General Hospital. The goal of the challenge is to design a rapidly deployable mechanical ventilator for pandemics. Company promises give more information about the project and its involvement over the next week.
