SLM Solutions, a German manufacturer of industrial metal 3D printers, has announced the sale of two more systems to a large European automotive manufacturer whose fleet currently consists of more than ten SLM Solutions machines, including several SLM500 and SLM280 models. The customer uses its 3D printers to produce metal parts for vehicle production, with an emphasis on serial production.

Taking into account global automotive trends such as the transition to electric vehicles, the implementation of 3D printing technology from metal powders will gradually accelerate. Much of this will come from the need to build lighter structures capable of holding heavy batteries, and to better manage temperature to extend their life.

SLM Solutions customers are able to meet the growing requirements of the automotive sector by implementing, inter alia, 3D printers from the SLM500 series. Between 2020 and 2021, SLM Solutions sold twice as many SLM500 models – reaching an installation base of 150 machines worldwide. Most of them print the most complex applications used in the modern automotive industry.

SLM Solutions is one of the market leaders in metal 3D printers, focusing on increasing productivity through innovations in multilaser technology. The first four-laser system on the market, the SLM 500 can integrate lasers independently or in parallel to increase manufacturing speed by 90% compared to dual laser setups. The machines are designed for series production, reducing machine downtime to a minimum.
