French Sculpteo – one of the largest companies providing 3D printing services in Europe, announced that on November 4, 2023, it will close its platform for designers, enabling them to sell their 3D printing models. The company will focus exclusively on core service activities. The marketplace for designers has been operating for over 10 years.
Sculpteo has been part of the BASF chemical concern since 2019, offering comprehensive 3D printing services based on powder technologies (SLS) as well as laser cutting. The decision to close the platform for designers is another example of “cutting yourself off” from people who create the 3D printing community for the benefit of business and industrial customers. In previous years, Shapeways, Hubs (former 3DHubs) and Materialize also decided to take similar steps.
The company ensures that projects submitted so far will remain available in users’ libraries and will be able to continue to be managed. However, everyone who ran their business on the Sculpteo platform will have to move to other platforms.
