Last October, during Expo 2022 in Dubai, PRUSA Research – one of the largest manufacturers of amateur 3D printers in the world, surprised everyone with the presentation of its proprietary, automated farm for 3D printing – AFS (Automated Farm System). AFS consists of rack systems that allow for quick assembly and replacement of individual 3D printers, if one requires service, it can be easily removed and replaced with another. During last week’s Formnext 2022 in Frankfurt am Main, PRUSA Research presented its system consisting of 8 devices, as well as announced its official price and presented the first commercial users.
Automated Farm System is a complex solution for 3D printing in FDM / FFF technology on an industrial level. The scalable 3D printer farm offers advanced work management tools and automatic packaging of finished prints. The lower price of the system is EUR 45,000 or USD 50,000 (net excluding VAT) – but it can be higher depending on the additional number of 3D printers installed. Additionally, the company offers training courses and service plans, including on-site support and immediate replacement of a failed 3D printer. The system is based on Prusa Connect software for job planning and 3D printing process management.
Next year, the first Original Prusa AFS systems will be delivered to the first customers selected by the manufacturer. Josef Prusa, the founder and CEO of the company, explains: “The demand significantly exceeds our production capacity, which is why in the first phase we chose companies that are geographically close to us and represent the use of 3D printing in various industries.” The first customers were MOTOISM (manufacturer of custom motorcycle parts from Germany), SCHLEIF-TEC (prototyping, Austria), Ruhr-Universität Bochum (education, Germany) and Oratek (innovative technological solutions, Switzerland).
