Industrial 3D printer manufacturer Nexa3D has announced the acquisition of AddiFab, the creator of Freeform Injection Molding software – a patented digital tooling process designed to combine 3D printing and injection molding technologies for even faster and more efficient production. With this technology, companies can quickly prototype parts using the materials they intend to use in the final product.
The companies have been working together for a year in North America and Europe. Thanks to the partnership announced in March 2022, Freeform Injection Molding technology has been supported by NXE 400 Pro 3D printers. As a result, dozens of customers have switched from traditional tools to digital tools. Among them were e.g. Wilson Sporting Goods – which used the process to develop new iterations of baseball bats, and PepsiCo, which used Nexa3D technology and the AddiFab program to produce molds for their beverage bottles.
Nexa3D made the decision to acquire AddiFab to enable same-day production for highly complex and non-injection moldable geometries, while noting the desire to expand production capacity with the free injection molding process. As part of the acquisition, AddiFab’s proprietary tooling resin, which is compatible with over 300 pre-made injection molding materials, has been renamed xMOLD.
Soluble xMOLD resin can be used in a traditional split form for reusable use or in a unique soluble application and will be made available to all users of Nexa3D photopolymer 3D printers. AddiFab’s headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark will also be used as the new Customer Center, which will include a product showroom, a service and support center and a major European fulfillment center.
“Soon after partnering with Nexa3D, it became increasingly apparent that our combined solution opens up huge opportunities for customers who want to create complex injection molding tools quickly and cost-effectively,” said Lasse G. Staal, co-founder and business development leader at Nexa3D. AddiFab “After a year of successful commercial partnerships and dozens of deployments for clients such as PepsiCo and Wilson Sporting Goods, I’m excited to officially join forces.”
The news about the acquisition of AddiFab by Nexa3D came after it announced the agreement to take over the SLS XYZprinting business, which shows how dynamically the NEXA3D brand and its product portfolio are developing.
