HP has announced the launch of a new MJF 3D printer called the HP Jet Fusion 5420W, which allows for the high-performance production of white parts from powdered plastics. At the same time, at the ongoing Formnext 2022 trade fair, the company is presenting for the first time in Europe its metal 3D printing solution – HP Metal Jet S100, together with a new production application from John Deere.
The HP Jet Fusion 5420W is designed to produce high-quality white parts and deliver all the benefits of HP Multi Jet Fusion technology, promoted by the older 4200 and 5200 series machines. HP says the new 3D printer is ideal for the automotive, consumer goods, and consumer, healthcare and industry. The first customers using the new system include DI Labs, Prototal Industries and Weerg.
HP also announced that since announcing a total of 100 million Multi Jet Fusion parts at last year’s Formnext, more than 70 million additional parts have been printed in the last 12 months. Some of them are currently presented at the fair.
Launched in September this year, the Metal Jet S100 3D printer enables industrial customers such as Domin Digital Motion, Lumenium and Schneider Electric to achieve “better performance, lower parts costs and exceptional quality.” John Deere, a world leader in agricultural and construction equipment, is the latest user to use Metal Jet technology to manufacture a valve in a tractor’s fuel system.
Together with GKN, John Deere manufactures Metal Jet printed valves for its agricultural machinery. In addition to a significant increase in productivity and environmental benefits, some will operate in extreme weather conditions. John Deere is also using HP Multi Jet Fusion technology to optimize manufacturing processes using 3D printed prototypes to test and fine-tune components and parts such as windshield mounts. This reduces pre-assembly time from 30 to 10 days, delivery time by up to 10 weeks and total production costs by 20-25%.
In terms of materials, HP partner Lubrizol announced the new ESTANE 3D M88A TPU, a flexible and highly durable material that allows the creation of intricate geometries and lattice structures. In post-processing, HP and AMT announced a new strategic alliance to provide customers with “seamless, fully automated post-processing support” across their entire 3D printing workflow.
HP and AMT are working together to help customers more efficiently and cost-effectively apply post-processing functions such as unpacking, cleaning, surface finishing, coloring and quality control to applications produced using the HP Jet Fusion 3D industrial printing portfolio. In addition to its partnership with AMT, HP is collaborating across the post-processing ecosystem to provide customers with access to a wide range of alternatives from vendors including AM Flow, DyeMansion and Rösler Group AM Solutions. DyeMansion offers advanced finishing options for Multi Jet Fusion customers, including surface finishing and dyeing of white parts.
Complementing HP’s material and post-processing updates, the company also announced Oechsler as a new digital manufacturing partner for the HP DMN. Oechsler was the first to take advantage of joint post-processing support with AMT and developed a number of applications.
In line with its sustainability commitments, HP has announced that it is offering its polymer-based technology customers a new recycling and takeback program, Arkema’s Virtucycle. The program allows interested HP customers to sell used PA11 and PA12 powders and printed parts instead of disposing of the materials through costly and environmentally harmful practices such as landfill or incineration.
