HP extends the range of materials with polypropylene

HP extends the range of available materials with a new material – polypropylene. The material was developed in cooperation with the world-famous chemical concern BASF, whose knowledge and experience have enabled the production of high quality material. PP plastic is dedicated to devices from the Jet Fusion 5200 series.

The new material is the first polypropylene material in the HP offer. The material is intended for use in a wide range of applications, and due to durability and chemical resistance may interest both beneficiaries of the automotive and industrial sectors, as well as representatives of companies involved in the production of consumer goods. As the developers say, making from new material ensures a balance between quality and production costs.

The polypropylene material developed by BASF and HP provides users with high quality 3D printing of models. In addition to chemical resistance, the material is also distinguished by low moisture absorption from the air and durability – it is suitable for 3D printing of pipe installations or airtight containers. What’s more, the material is also economical – the creators ensure that the unbaked powder can be successfully reused.

HP’s Ramon Pastor mentions that the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a key moment for the 3D printing industry. Only thanks to HP 3D printing technology over 2.3 million parts have been printed for the production of replacement personal protective equipment. HP printers were used in the production of protective masks as part of a project initiated by the Czech Technical University. The model has been optimized for production using HP devices – both HP Multijet Fusion 540 and 4200 and 5200. Professional devices, proposed by the team, guarantee the production of elements with optimal properties, such as flexibility, low weight, and biocompatibility

3D printers turned out to be the right solution to carry out the so-called distributed production, providing equipment for hospitals in various places around the world. Now HP is trying to adapt to the conditions of the new reality and is proposing further materials for 3D printing to enable its customers for a new start in the field of additive production.

The implementation of polypropylene material is another step in strengthening the cooperation between HP and BASF, concluded in 2016. So far, together they have created, among others Ultrasint PA6 X028, which is distinguished by increased strength and temperature resistance compared to other materials of this type available on the market.
