Formlabs announced a partnership with one of the largest toy manufacturers in the world – Hasbro. As part of the initiative, the companies will launch the manufacturer’s latest innovation – Hasbro Selfie Series. The new personalization platform uses photopolymer 3D printing technology to create 15 cm collector figures with their image. The project is to start this autumn and will be available only to US customers at the moment. The production cost of the figurine is about $ 60.
The process of personalizing and producing your figures is simple – first, download the Hasbro Pulse mobile app, available for Android and iOS, and log into your Hasbro Selfie Series account. Then, from the application level, the face is scanned and the character and hairstyle are adjusted. After approval, the figurine is commissioned for production and shipped to the indicated address. Initially, the Hasbro Selfie Series offer will include characters from the G.I. JOE, Ghostbusters and Power Rangers.
The cooperation between the companies dates back to 2014, when Hasbro started using Formlabs 3D printers for rapid prototyping of figures. Now the partnership has evolved into the production of end products, allowing fans to create personalized figurines based on classic or current characters from popular movies, TV series and comics.
To bring the idea of Hasbro Selfie Series from concept to reality, Hasbro used more than 30 Form 3 printers, a new resin developed by Formlabs, and a specially designed digital workflow. Formlabs also adapted its PreForm and Dashboard software specifically for Hasbro to further integrate the Formlabs API with the manufacturer’s other production functions.
