Formlabs has opened a new office in Milwaukee, USA. The opening ceremony was attended by Sam Rikkers, Deputy Secretary and COO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Kathy Blumenfeld, Secretary of the Department of Administration, David Crowley County Director of Milwaukee County, and Lafayette Crump, Milwaukee City Development Commissioner. As a hub for technical innovation and manufacturing, Milwaukee is uniquely positioned to support Formlabs’ regional headquarters and develop additive manufacturing – a key part of President Biden AM Forward’s initiative focused on supply chain improvement.
The new facility of 20,000 square feet (approx. 1,850 square meters) will accommodate more than 100 employees and includes an open floor plan, two showrooms, a 3D printer farm and an exhibition of unique 3D prints. Milwaukee sales and service teams will play a key role in providing important customer service functions and supporting existing customers in the region.
All over the world, Formlabs has a team of over 800 employees who design and 3D printers operating in SLA and SLS technologies. The company’s customers use 3D printers and Formlabs materials in a wide variety of applications, from product development in consumer electronics, aviation and other industries to cutting-edge STEM education and the manufacture of medical devices such as dental prostheses.
Formlabs has historically based most of its operations in Massachusetts, where the company’s founders graduated from MIT. Since then, the company has been consistently developing, launching, inter alia, its branch in Europe. It also focused heavily on the dental market, becoming a more affordable alternative to more expensive and longer operating solutions.
