Ferrari 3D prints parts of protective masks

Ferrari is another manufacturer from the automotive industry that has decided to support hospital employees and patients by 3D printing adapters for snorkeling masks, designed by Isinnova.

Earlier, we reported that Lamborghini, an Italian luxury car manufacturer, has made available the hardware resources of its R&D department to create the test pay that is necessary in the testing and validation of respirators. Škoda Auto was also involved in the 3D printing project of personal protective equipment for the Czech Technical University, offering its own processing capacity that allows the production of additive protective masks

Since Thursday, April 16 this year, Ferrari has been manufacturing adapters made of thermoplastic materials, 3D printed in the production complex located in Maranell. According to the assumptions, several hundred pieces of equipment will be produced, which will be used in Italian hospitals by both healthcare professionals and patients.

The project created by Isinnova specialists is becoming more and more popular, and the elements that allow you to transform diving equipment into a protective mask or non-invasive respirator are printed in various parts of the world. Recall – the originator of the project is the doctor of the hospital Gardone Valtrompia, Dr. Renato Favero, who contacted Isinnova, claiming that a diving mask can be a solution to the problem of a shortage of masks for oxygen therapy. Then the idea appeared that the design of the device would be based on a popular type of diving mask available in the Decathlon sports store network. It was necessary to print a simple component that allowed the mask to be connected to the respirator body. The new part was called the Charlotte valve.

Earlier, Ferrari had partnered with Siare Engineering, the only Italian manufacturer of pulmonary respirators, and provided necessary components for fan construction, such as monitors and electrical components. As part of the project, the luxury car manufacturer has entered into cooperation with Novamacut (HP solutions provider) and Solid Energy (Stratays distributor), who say, among others for the distribution of 3D printed elements.

The company entrusted optimization work on the model to representatives of Mares, which manufactures diving equipment, to create the fastest-possible model in production while maintaining high quality.

Ferrari suspended standard work in its two factories until May 3, when the lifting of nationwide restrictions on the work of factories and large production centers is to begin in Italy. Today was announced about the initiative taken by the company, under which employees can voluntarily pass the SARS-CoV-2 test so that healthy people can get back to work as soon as possible.

Ferrari has confirmed that 500 out of 4,000 employees at the Italian factories in Maranello and Modena have already passed the tests, but the company wants to achieve a performance of 800 tests per day. Their goal is to resume production as soon as possible while ensuring a safe working environment.
