Essentium introduces new 3D adhesives in collaboration with Magigoo

Essentium Inc. – manufacturer of industrial grade 3D printers, introduced a new line of universal 3D adhesives dedicated to engineering filaments with high extrusion speed. The new products were created in cooperation with the Maltese company Thought3D, which is behind the well-known brand of 3D Magigoo adhesives.

Essentium has announced the launch of four new 3D adhesives designed to work with the heated bed in High Speed Extrusion mode. It is dedicated to work in high temperatures, even up to 200°C. The purpose of using 3D adhesives is to keep the first print layer on the print bed until the print is finished. It is an excellent alternative to other adhesive products such as tapes.

Sometimes 3D printers in FDM / FFF technology require the use of an adhesive to prevent the print from tearing off, which results in interrupting the process. In the past, unconventional “home” methods were used, such as blue painter’s tape, hairspray, or the so-called “ABS juice”. Such solutions were very problematic and sloppy. Fortunately, more convenient and easier solutions have appeared.

Essentium believes that the created 3D adhesives will contribute to a significant increase in the consistency and reliability of printed elements, without the need to print rafters or brims. The entire line consists of four products, also available in 120 ml packaging, for industrial 3D printing. Each of them is adapted to work with a specific material or group of materials:

  • Standard – compatible with a wide range of filaments
  • Nylon Filaments – compatible with polyamide-based materials
  • Flexible Filaments – dedicated to TPU thermoplastic materials
  • High-Temperature Filaments – used for 3D printing at high temperatures

The products are available in the form of a “glue stick” that must be spread on the worktable. The binder only works during 3D printing when the temperature is kept high. After cooling the printout, the glue loses its properties, which makes it easy to remove. According to Brandon Sweeney, co-founder of Essentium, these new products deliver high-quality prints while being solvent-free and environmentally friendly.

Recently, Thought3D has significantly expanded the Magigoo range of adhesives to accommodate a wide variety of materials including polypropylene, including glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate, nylon, thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and high temperature PAEK materials.
