Essentium, a company that has been operating in the 3D printing industry for a long time, has established cooperation with LEHVOSS Group, a German chemical corporation. Thanks to the cooperation, they were able to develop a line of specialist materials. Their engineering materials, intended for industrial production, have the necessary certificates confirming the fulfillment of requirements for applications in various industries – including in the aviation, automotive, oil or electronics industries.
The resulting line of specialist, polymeric engineering grade materials is the result of two years of cooperation between companies, which allowed the exchange of experience of companies in their field of specialization. LEHVOSS Group has a well-established knowledge of high performance polymers, while Essentium is a specialist in the field of polymer and composite chemistry.
What’s more, Essentium is known as the creator of the Flashfuse process, which uses electric welding technologies with the addition of nanaomaterials to achieve unbelievably high adhesion between successive layers of prints in FDM technology.
The new line of materials includes filaments based on PEEK and high temperature nylon (high temperature nylon), which have adequate mechanical properties and chemical resistance combined with an easy 3D printing process. All materials are Essentium’s High Speed Extrusion (HSE) certificate and can be used in a wide range of applications, such as the production of heavily loaded parts or components where operational reliability is a priority.
Thomas Collet, director of 3D printing materials at LEHVOSS Group, admits that Essentium is a leader in the field of new materials, and the cooperation allows us to create a wide range of certified 3D printing materials that meet the requirements of technical requirements. It allows, among others for faster product launch, but also reduces production costs while maintaining high quality of manufactured items.
Brandon Sweeney, co-founder of Essentium, adds that the market has seen a demand for materials such as PEEK and HTN. He hopes that the high quality of their materials will increase manufacturers’ confidence in 3D printing technology, which will make the method more applicable not only in prototyping, but also in mass production.
These are not the first engineering materials produced by Essentium – earlier, in 2019, other high-temperature, specialized filaments were introduced to the market, which also obtained High Speed Extrusion (HSE) certification.
