At Formnext 2022, EOS presented two new polyamide materials dedicated to SLS technology – climate-neutral PA 1101 and PA 2200 with reduced carbon content. In addition, the German company presented the FDR (Fine Detail Resolution) resolution system for the FORMIGA P 110 3D printer.
When it comes to material sourcing, EOS focuses on three factors: the selection of polymers for 3D printing, how polymer powders are made, and how qualified powder is processed for production in EOS systems. Depending on the choice of raw materials, the CO2e footprint of production can be reduced by increasing production efficiency and quality. This, in turn, leads to a reduction in production waste and an increase in the possibility of reusing materials in subsequent productions.
PA 1101 is a bio-based material with a lower carbon footprint than fossil-based polymers. EOS customers will receive a certificate confirming the correctness of calculations and compensation for applications produced from it.
PA 2200 has a significant property set for end part properties and is a traditional fossil based polymer. EOS aims to continuously increase the production efficiency of this material while providing the added value of a nearly 45% reduced carbon footprint. Renewable energy sources are used for the production of materials.
When delicate structures with fine surfaces and thin walls are the key to building applications, FDR (Fine Detail Resolution) is the right solution. EOS has developed FDR technology for its polymer systems to enhance customers’ ability to 3D print parts with fine details.
Unlike other options in the EOS portfolio, FDR uses a CO2 laser with a focal diameter half that of many other existing SLS technologies. This results in extremely delicate surfaces as well as delicate but stable parts with a minimum wall thickness of just 0.22 mm. The material is processed in layers with a thickness of 40 µm and is characterized by high impact strength and elongation at break.
This opens up new application areas wherever precision engineering is needed, such as optical components, parts for gears and small motors, small valves, tubes, impellers, plugs and electronic equipment. FORMIGA P 110 FDR provides even more variety and attention to detail.
