BMW Group and Dassault Systèmes have announced the launch of a multi-year partnership. This is not a simple implementation of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform at BMW, but the creation of an entire digital work environment for the engineering process at BMW, with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform at its heart. More than 17,000 BMW engineers are to work on the new platform across the entire organizational spectrum, from conceptual work to the production stage.
The main motivation for the development of a new platform is, as always, time. More integrated processes and improved communication are expected to shorten the time needed to commercialize a new product, in this case a car or motorcycle. All departments with access to the new platform will work using a digital twin of a given vehicle, which can be configured in real time in terms of equipment available in the production version. This is intended to allow for more effective sharing of components and to master the very large variety of available variants.
The idea of a digital twin is certainly not new, but BMW seems to be planning to implement it on a completely new scale, and it sounds like a lot less printing at the prototype stage. Despite everything, we support you.
