Carbon introduces a new fireproof resin

Carbon – a manufacturer of high-speed 3D printers printing from light-curing resins, has announced the launch of a new flame-retardant EPX 86FR resin, which uses Carbon’s patented dual-curing process. While these types of materials are already quite common in the 3D printing sector, low-flammable materials in photopolymer technologies are still quite rare. Carbon not only extends the available possibilities in this area, but intends to use its material to significantly raise the bar in relation to the solutions of the competition.

EPX 86FR is a resin that offers a combination of fire resistance, functional strength, high strength and long-term stability. It can help reduce the cost of manufacturing end-use part tooling, functional prototypes, and fire-resistant or self-extinguishing tools such as housings, brackets, and connectors in automotive and industrial applications.

One of the first users of the new material is Astoria Pacific, a company producing automated analytical solutions for laboratories, which uses EPX 86FR resin, among other things, to develop thermal bath enclosures for highly regulated electronic devices.

The key features and applications of the EPX 86FR include:

  • the ability to produce final parts, functional prototypes and production tools for consumer, automotive and industrial applications that require UL 94 V-0 or FAR 25.853 (a) assessment with flame retardant and self-extinguishing properties
  • high strength and temperature stability as well as a lower degree of deformation in 3D printing
  • the possibility of producing specialized applications, such as battery housings for electronic devices, fans, printed circuit board covers, car battery housings, brackets, covers, fasteners, or cable clamps and connectors.
EPX 86FR material is commercially available in North America, Europe and the UK and is compatible with all Carbon M1, M2, M3, M3 Max and L1 3D printers.
