Yesterday, the Portuguese company announced the acquisition of AstroPrint – developer of cloud-based 3D printing software that enables users to efficiently manage multiple 3D printers. The companies concluded a takeover agreement in April this year. and completed the transaction in July. Thanks to the acquisition of BCN3D, it not only became the owner of the popular platform for 3D printing in the cloud, but also acquired an experienced team of programmers who will participate in the development of other products of the company.
Founded in San Diego, California in 2013, AstroPrint is one of the best-known cloud software platforms on the market. It has over 200,000 registered users from 130 different countries and supports up to 2,000 3D printers at the same time. BCN3D intends to maintain AstroPrint as an independent platform and continue to develop new functionalities for its user base.

The history of the company dates back to 2012, when it was established as a branch of CIM-UPC – Technology Center of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
