3D Systems takes over Wematter – a Swedish manufacturer of compact SLS 3D printers

3D Systems has concluded an agreement regarding the acquisition of Wematter – a Swedish company producing SLS 3D printers. This is a consequence of the partnership agreement announced last year, under which 3D Systems became the exclusive global distributor of Gravity’s selective laser sintering technology. 3D Systems expects the transaction to close in July 2023.

Wematter introduced its Gravity SLS technology in 2019, offering it as an office and small business friendly solution. Since then, the company has regularly updated its 3D printing system, while expanding its portfolio with 3D printer models – Gravity Essential, Essential+ and Enterprise.

Wematter Gravity is designed to allow the use of additive manufacturing in smaller spaces, taking up only 0.7 m x 0.7 m x 1.5 m. The 3D printer requires 3 times less space than standard SLS systems, although it has a build volume of 300 mm x 300 mm x 300 mm and can print parts from the entire build chamber in 24 hours or less. Gravity is CE certified for use in offices, hospitals and research labs to produce manufacturing parts for a wide range of applications such as automotive, consumer goods and medical devices and equipment.

The 3D printer uses a standard power source and ethernet connection, enabling plug-and-play installation and commissioning in less than an hour from delivery. This is facilitated by a simple interface that guides the user through the setup and 3D printing process.

The Gravity portfolio includes 20 materials and is supported by a powder handling system. In addition, the system allows unused powder to be recycled over multiple cycles, allowing users to make the most of the material and eliminate waste. Users can also start and monitor print jobs remotely, helping to increase productivity and reduce resource requirements by connecting to the cloud. The cloud connection also enables proactive and preventive maintenance, maximizing uptime and productivity.
