3D Systems has announced the launch of the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus, a new 3D printer specifically designed to produce complex, high-quality jewelry designs made from pure wax. The company says the machine can produce 100% ultra-high resolution wax-ready castings in a matter of hours.
The new machine enables the creation of patterns that require less finishing, reducing precious metal waste. This allows for “fast and economical” creation, repeating and production of all jewelry styles, including complex geometries, according to 3D systems. 3D Systems says the requirement for hand polishing can be a “significant” resource strain, both in the jeweler’s workforce and in terms of materials, negatively impacting profitability. To meet this challenge, the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus 3D printer includes a new ZHD printing mode that provides up to a 2x improvement in vertical resolution without increasing the consumption of wax material.
The resulting surface finish reduces the need for manual polishing of the end parts, minimizing the loss of gold or other precious metals, which 3D Systems believes can positively impact the profitability of jewelry shops. The reduced need for polishing allows customers to create increasingly complex designs. The ProJet MJP 2500W Plus is designed to help customers increase throughput by up to 25% compared to currently available solutions.
The new 3D printer prints wax objects with sharp edges and clearly marked details. Visijet wax melts like standard casting waxes, with no ash content, resulting in defect-free castings. The material is durable in handling and fine detail casting, and the contrasting colors allow details to be easily visualized.
